The Check Me Out Project

We’re helping you get your health back on track.

The Check Me Out project is a major women, AFAB and non binary health promotion activity, co-delivered by Mums of the Hills, Women’s Health East and Phoenix Australia Centre for Posttraumatic Mental Health at the University of Melbourne. We’re ‘rolling out the red carpet’ for people across the Yarra Ranges in roadshows created just for them.

What’s it about?

What to expect during your checklist time.

Talks & Q&A Sessions

Our events are more than just completing a checklist. You have the opportunity to meet with healthcare professionals, asking them questions you’ve always wanted to know.

Learn about important preventative health care, learn about updates thanks to new medical research and so much more.

  • FREE!!!!

  • Your booked time (approximately 15 ‘child free’ minutes) is there to for you to personally audit your health checklist with back up advice from healthcare professionals if you need.

If you’ve not had time to consider which ‘well person’ checks you’ve let lapse this time is there to go through the Jean Haile’s list and note down which checks you’ve missed that you will need to talk to your Dr about.

  • Seeing your doctor is great! That’s exactly the outcome we are hoping to achieve.

These checks won’t replace a visit to your Dr. Your completed checklist will arm you with the knowledge of what tests you’ve not had done for a while. With your health ‘to-do’ list, you can visit your Dr and say, can we talk about X, Y, and Z checks? It’s been X years since I’ve had them done, maybe it’s time to check?

Research has shown that basic routine checkups - the 'well person' checks have dropped. We're only attending if we're sick. COVID lockdowns and the shortage of appointments have stopped many routine checkups too. Maybe we’re choosing to spend money on getting the kids checked and forgoing checks ourselves. Maybe we don't have the time to think about our health. Whatever the reason, the outcome is a lot of people not getting themselves checked out.

So the Check Me Out roadshow will arm you with knowledge and motivation to talk to your Dr about.

  • No. You have developed a relationship with your doctor. Only you and your doctor should know your own personal health status and medical details.

This event is about preparing your checklist, setting your health plan to take to your doctor.

  • Firstly, sorry to hear you’re feeling unwell. We won’t be able to help you at these events. We won’t be having 1 on 1 consultations at this event. You also won’t be explaining your personal medical information or situation. We feel this is something that only you and your Dr should know.

If you’re feeling unwell, please contact your Dr. I hope you feel better soon.

  • Of course. We’ll be putting a downloadable checklist up shortly. While I won’t speak for anyone else, I know that my time at home is full of the distractions and responsibilities of daily life. The chances of my taking the time to do this at home are slim. Plus, at home you don’t have healthcare professionals on hand to answer.

At least at this event with the opportunities, activities and incentives, I might have a better chance of completing it.

  • As there will be additional healthcare professionals outside to talk to, information sessions, catering, hikes, forest bathing, besides your booked time you can stay as long as you like. These events are as much about you looking caring for yourself as they are about making new connections, meeting other mums.

If you are bringing your children, we ask that you arrive 20 minutes so you have time to meet your child minder.

  • We are excited to be working with local business Event Nannies. Their qualified and highly experienced nannies will be on hand to help care for kids while mum is completing her checklist.

For our Monbulk and Yarra Junction events where childcare facilities are already available, we will be utilising the skills and experience of the staff at these venues.

Our child minding area is right beside the area mum is and in direct eye sight. Of course if your children don’t feel comfortable there, there is absolutely no obligation to use the service. We just know that mums need a break.

  • If you are coming child free, yes you are welcome to attend without booking. If you are coming with your kids we would prefer you booking in first so that you can complete the necessary childcare forms.
