Your time and skills can help shape a more connected, supported and resilient Hills community.
Mums of the Hills (MotHs) runs on people power. From organising workshops to welcoming new parents, developing resources to running community events – our volunteers are the heart of everything we do.
Whether you have a few hours a month or want to take on a bigger role, there’s a place for you here. Volunteering with us means more than giving back – it’s about being part of something meaningful:
Make a local impact – Help reduce isolation and support the wellbeing of women, mums, and families in the Yarra Ranges.
Build your skills – Gain hands-on experience in event planning, advocacy, communications, community development and more.
Connect with community – Meet other likeminded people and form new friendships rooted in shared purpose.
Be part of the change – Advocate for the issues that matter to our community, from telecommunication black spots to maternal mental health.
Who Can Volunteer?
Everyone is welcome. We particularly encourage:
Local mums or parents looking to reconnect with community
Skilled professionals who want to offer their time and talents
Students seeking experience in community work or advocacy
Retirees or part-time workers with a passion for making a difference
Whether you're highly organised, creative, people-focused, or tech-savvy – there’s a role that will suit you.

Governing Committee EOI
We're seeking motivated, community-minded individuals to initially shadow our Secretary and Treasurer before stepping into these vital roles. This is a great opportunity to learn the ropes, contribute to the strategic direction of Mums of the Hills, and help us grow.
Committee members must be current paid subscribers of MotHs. If you're passionate about governance, detail-oriented, and want to make a meaningful impact, we’d love to hear from you.
-
Volunteer Coordinator Role
Are you an organised, people-focused person who loves bringing others together? We're currently looking for a Volunteer Coordinator to help welcome, support, and manage our amazing team of volunteers. You'll help match people to roles, keep communication flowing, and ensure everyone feels valued and connected.
A few hours a week can make a big impact — and we'll support you every step of the way.

Event Support Roles
Love being part of community gatherings? Join our Event Support team! From setting up spaces to welcoming attendees and lending a hand during workshops or special events, these roles are perfect for friendly, reliable people who enjoy helping things run smoothly.
It’s flexible, social, and a great way to get involved – even if you only have a few hours to spare.
-
Advocacy and Research
Are you passionate about making change and digging into the issues that matter? Our Advocacy & Research volunteers help us gather data, consult with community, and support submissions that push for better outcomes in areas like maternal mental health, family violence, childcare access and more. Perfect for detail-oriented thinkers, students, or anyone with a drive to influence real, local change.
-
Content Creators
Are you a storyteller, wordsmith, or visual thinker? We’re looking for volunteers to help craft engaging content that reflects the heart of our community. Whether it’s writing blog posts, snapping photos at events, designing resources, or creating social media magic – your creativity can help share our message and amplify local voices. Flexible, fun, and great for building your portfolio.
-
Grant Writing
Help us secure vital funding by joining our grant writing team. You’ll assist in identifying opportunities, crafting compelling applications, and telling the story of our impact. This role is perfect for someone who wants to make a behind-the-scenes difference in sustaining and growing our programs. Prior experience is welcome but not essential – we’ll support you to learn as you go.
Volunteer with Confidence
We’re committed to supporting our volunteers with:
Induction and onboarding
Clear role descriptions and expectations
Ongoing support and training where needed
Flexibility – we understand family and life come first
All volunteer roles (especially those working with families) will require a Working With Children Check or basic screening process as per our Child Safety Policy – we’ll support you through that.
Ready to Join Us?
Check out the roles we have available and inquire. Tell us a bit about yourself, your interests and your availability. We’ll be in touch for a quick chat to match you with the right opportunity.
Thank you for considering being part of our village. It takes a community to build a community – and we’re so glad you’re here.
