MOTHs Officially a Registered Charity

We Did It! Mums of the Hills Inc. is now a registered charity!

After two years of persistence and countless adjustments, we’re proud to share that Mums of the Hills Inc. has officially been registered as a charity.

We removed our first application for charity status after the ACNC warned that it would be rejected on the basis that “the act of mothering and motherhood was not, in itself, considered a charitable purpose.” That moment floored us because we see every day how the invisible labour of care can lead to strained relationships, financial distress, deteriorating mental health, and increased isolation.

Motherhood isn’t just a personal journey, but a social one that shapes the well-being of families, workplaces, and entire communities. Don't get us wrong, we love being mums. There is so much joy, meaning, and laughter that comes from raising children and being part of this chapter of life. But while motherhood brings joy, it can also bring pressure, invisibility, and exhaustion. Mums deserve support, and MOTHs Inc. exists to make sure they get it.

So, we went back to the drawing board. We reframed, restructured, and clarified what we’ve always known: that reducing isolation, improving wellbeing, and strengthening social connection are vital acts of community resilience.

This milestone isn’t just about paperwork, it’s about recognition that what mums do is also community work. It’s social infrastructure and resilience in action.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who’s been part of this long journey: our committee, volunteers, legal advisors, and supporters. Your belief made this possible.
