Welcome bags - building connections one bag at a time
Welcome to the 'Welcome Bags for New Families’ initiative, a great new collaboration between MOTHS and MADCOW designed to connect, support and welcome new families in our community. We know the Yarra Ranges is a great place to live, but it can be isolating, especially for new families and new mums. The goal is to reduce this isolation and get mums and families involved and feeling welcome in our community. We hope to create thoughtfully curated welcome bags filled with essential items like information on local groups, upcoming events, markets, and anything a new family needs to know to thrive in the Yarra Ranges.
How You Can Get Involved:
Donate Products or Services: Contribute items, services or information that would be beneficial to new families.
Sponsor a Welcome Bag: We are grateful for grant funding from Yarra Ranges Council and Bendigo Bank to get our trial bags off the ground. To keep the project going beyond the trial, we’ll need generous locals to sponsor one or more rounds of welcome bags.
Volunteer Your Time: Join the volunteer group at the MOTHS Hub in Belgrave to assemble the welcome bags and connect with fellow community members.
By participating, you'll not only support new families but also help us to develop intergenerational connections within our community. We especially encourage mums with children in 'gap demographics'—such as those with kids in kindergarten, post-high school, or those who are grandmothers—to join us. These stages can be extra isolating and present challenges in finding connections. Our initiative aims to bridge that gap by creating purposeful groups that bring joy and support to all involved.
Join us to make a positive impact in the Yarra Ranges, one welcome bag at a time. Your involvement can make a world of difference to new families seeking support and connection.
