Breastfeeding Information Session - Hand Expression

Come along for this group discussion about expressing your breastmilk by hand.

Date: Friday 3rd May
Time: 10:30am until 12:30pm
Where: MotHs Hub, 6 Hayes Place, Belgrave

Until recent years, hand expression of breastmilk and colostrum has been an underrated and overlooked area of breastfeeding education and support, especially as the popularity of manual and electric breast pumps has increased.

But there are many benefits of knowing how to express milk from the breast without the use of expensive or cumbersome pumps, especially during pregnancy and early postpartum when colostrum is still present. Hand expression is useful, convenient and free!

In this group discussion at the MotH's Hub about expressing your breastmilk by hand, we will talk about;

  • Why express your milk/colostrum?

  • Why use my hands rather than a pump?

  • When can I start to express my colostrum/breastmilk?

  • Effective milk removal with hand expression technique

  • Storage and handling of colostrum/breastmilk

  • Giving your expressed breastmilk/colostrum to your baby

Price: $30
